Frequently Asked Questions
What is a pediatrician?
A pediatrician is a medical doctor who specializes in the care of children. Pediatricians have undergone special training in the health and illnesses of infants, children, teens, and young adults, and are certified by the American Board of Pediatrics after passing a comprehensive exam.
Pediatricians provide preventive health care for children in good health and medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill.
They also provide parents with support and advice on concerns such as growth and development, safety and prevention, nutrition, and emotional wellness to foster a lifetime of good health.
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes, we are welcoming new patients to our practice! Please see the list of insurances that we accept under the Insurances section of our website. We see patients until they are 22 years old at which point we will help them transition to an "adult" doctor.
Before scheduling an appointment with our pediatric office, please ensure all healthcare records are shared with us. This helps us facilitate a seamless transition and deliver the highest standard of care tailored to your child’s needs. Medical records give us valuable insight into your child's medical history, past treatments, and ongoing health needs.
Do you have an annual fee?
At Larchmont Pediatrics, we are committed to providing the best possible care to our patients. Many changes have taken place in the health insurance industry in recent years. We want to provide high quality medical care that is based on our families’ needs including non-covered services. We charge an annual

- Completing forms for child care centers, schools, sports and camps within 3 business days at no charge.
- Writing notes for missed school or work, P.E. excuses, return to activities.
- Sending copies of medical records to specialists and/or other providers at no additional charge upon your written request.
- Preparing letters and reports.
- Coordination of care with specialists at no charge.
Our Family Plan's Fees:
- Families with one child: $200 per year
- Families with two children: $300 per year
- Families with three or more children: $400

Can I meet my pediatrician before my baby is born?
Yes, in fact we strongly encourage parents-to-be to visit our office for a prenatal appointment. This is a great way to get acquainted with our office and our doctors. During this visit, we will answer any questions that you have about our practice or your new child. Visit our expectant parent's page for more information.
I just gave birth. When should I schedule my baby's first doctor visit?
We recommend that your newborn be seen in our office 1-3 days after discharge from the hospital. Our staff understands the importance of this first visit and will make every effort to schedule this visit promptly. Please call our office after your baby is born while you are still in the hospital so that we can best reserve an appointment time for your baby's first visit in our office.
What days are you open?
Our office is open Monday through Friday 8:00 am- 5:00 pm. We are closed Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. We are open only in the morning on the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve.
How do I make an appointment?
You can schedule an appointment by calling our office during regular business hours, or by requesting an appointment online. You also may leave a message on our voicemail if it is after hours. Please do not push "0" as the triage nurse and on call doctor are not able to schedule appointments after hours.
May I request a specific pediatrician for my visit?
Every effort is made to arrange your child's care and follow-up visits with the pediatrician of your choice in our office. When your child is ill and needs to be seen urgently, you may request a specific doctor but depending on the schedule and your child's needs you may see one of our other doctors. The doctors in our practice work as. a team and we encourgage you to get to know all our doctors as you will likely see each one of them at some point in your child's life.
Parking
You may park in the parking structure of our medical building. Please note that we do not validate. Parking rates in the building are $2.50 each 15 minutes ($10/hour) with $20.00 daily maximum. Also, there is 2 hour metered street parking available. If you are willing to walk and get some exercise, there is time-restricted free parking on adjacent streets.
How do we contact the after hours doctor?
We have a nurse for urgent after hours issues. This allows our doctors to be rested and ready to see patients during office hours. If you have an urgent matter that cannot wait until our regular business hours, you can call the office and press "0" once the voicemail answers. This will transfer your call to the nurse who is on call. You will speak to a registered nurse who can help you and is able to reach one of our physicians if needed.
We also encourage you to check our child health resources before calling for after-hours urgent care.
For non-urgent matters mild illness, scheduling appointments, or refilling medications, please call during regular office hours.
IN THE EVENT OF A LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY, CALL 911.
Can I bring all of my children in for their check up at the same time?
Our policy is that we will only schedule 2 well visits at the same time. It is difficult for both us and you to focus on one child at a time when there are more than 2 children present. And rarely can a child sit through three (or more) physicals without being disruptive. We realize that is more convenient for you to bring several children in at once but in the end, it isn't fair to your children to have the quality of their well visits be sacrificed by the convenience of having them all together. We do make exceptions for triplets but find that most parents of triplets prefer to do separate visits so that each child gets the undivided attention of the parent and the doctor. If you have questions, please feel free to ask us.
How often does my child need to be seen in the office?
Your child should not only see the pediatrician for an illness. It is also important to schedule well-child-care exams regularly, beginning in infancy. Also called well-baby or well-child visits or checkups, these routine examinations provide the best opportunity for the doctor to observe the progress of your child's physical and mental growth and development; to counsel and teach parents; to detect problems through screening tests; to provide immunizations, and to get to know one another. Well-child visits are strongly recommended as part of preventive pediatric care.
Well-child visits are also a good time for parents to raise questions and concerns about a child's development, behavior, nutrition, safety and overall well-being.
Our routine well-child visits schedule follows the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines.
Why does my child need to receive vaccinations?
Immunizations are a series of shots given to children at different ages to help ward off serious, and potentially fatal, childhood diseases. Making sure your child receives immunizations when scheduled is the best way to help protect your child from these potentially fatal diseases. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, vaccinations have reduced the number of infections from vaccine-preventable diseases by more than 90%. If you're apprehensive about vaccinations, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We will be happy to discuss your concerns. If you decide that you do not want to vaccinate your child at all, we respect that this is your decision to make. However, we do not agree with this decision and therefore you would need to choose a different practice for your child's care. Our office does require all of oru patients to get vaccinated. Please review our Vaccine Policy for more details.
What immunizations will my child receive?
To help protect your child from many serious infectious diseases, we follow the immunization schedule recommended by The American Academy of Pediatrics. Please discuss your immunization questions and concerns with any of our pediatricians.
When will I receive lab or test results?
You will receive a call immediately with any lab results that require urgent attention. For all other lab and imaging results, we will schedule a telemedicine visit (or in person) in a timely manner to discuss the lab or imaging results. This gives you and your doctor dedicated time to discuss the results and follow up plan and for you to ask any followup questions that you might have.
How do I obtain a prescription refill?
For medication refills, please ensure there are no refills available by calling your pharmacy. If there are no refills available, call our office and our team can assist you. Please make sure to tell us the following information: medication name, the dose, and the frequency the medication is given. We want to ensure that we are prescribing the correct dose. We are dedicated to ensuring your child’s medications are available when needed.
Does your practice support breastfeeding mothers?
Yes, we promote breastfeeding. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding babies for the first six to twelve months. Breastfeeding helps defend children against infections, prevents allergies, and protects against many chronic conditions.
While experts believe that breast milk is the best nutritional choice for infants, breastfeeding may not be possible for all women. Some women have specific considerations that impede breastfeeding. In these cases, an iron-fortified, milk-based infant formula is a good alternative.
We will gladly discuss your diet and feeding concerns at your child's well-care visit.
